„The reference absolute lifetime risk for ESRD in controls was in fact very small in both studies (0.06% and 0.04% in the Norwegian and US studies, respectively). Indeed, 11 times or 8 times a close-to-zero reference hazards yields only minor increases in the absolute risk: the difference between donors and controls in the average absolute risk was in fact <0.3% after 15 years in the US studies (i.e. >300 living donations need to occur to have one donor develop nephrectomy-related ESRD after 15 years)“.
